Implementing Culture

2025

Lake Merrit, Oakland CA

This project focuses on the redesign of the Bird Reserve to enhance the connection between Lake Merritt’s ecosystems and the surrounding community. By creating family-friendly, interactive spaces, it promotes environmental education, recreational activities, and community programs, fostering stewardship and understanding of the lake’s ecology. The redesign improves the shoreline, water quality, and bird habitats, while addressing overpopulation issues and introducing a “living shoreline” for ecological restoration. This sustainable design serves as a model for future restoration efforts and provides a vibrant, educational space for visitors to connect with and contribute to the lake’s preservation.
